 Simone Edwards was an athlete from 1989-93 on the Madison campus and was named the school's Female Athlete of the Year for her sophomore, junior, and senior years. She played softball during her freshman and sophomore years and excelled in both volleyball and basketball for four years. Edwards is easily the greatest women's basketball player to step on the court for FDU-Madison. She became just the 12th woman in New Jersey history to accumulate 2,000 or more points in all divisions and is the Jersey Devils and New Jersey NCAA Division III's all-time leading scorer with 2,205 points. With a knack for going to the free throw line, Simone holds the NCAA Division III record for free throws made in a season (238) and a career (789). Simone also holds the Jersey Devils record for points in a game with 42 vs. Drew in 1993. She was named a Kodak All-American in 1991-92 and 1992-93 and was tabbed the Middle Atlantic Conference Northeast Section's MVP in 1990-91, while being named to the MAC Northeast Section First Team three times. Simone was also named to the New Jersey Coaches Association First Team three times and was a four-time All-ECAC selection. She was FDU-Madison's MVP for her last three seasons and holds the top three single-season scoring marks for the Jersey Devils with a high of 611 in 1990-91. Even in her first season she made an impact being named the Jersey 9 Rookie of the Year in 1989-90. Simone was the nation's sixth leading scorer for the 1990-91 season, averaging 23.5 points per game. She is third on the school's career assist list with 290, third on the steals list with 262, and fourth on the Jeresy Devils career blocks list with 52. She was also named volleyball team MVP twice and honored as an All-ECAC and MAC selection as well. Since leaving FDU, Simone has tried out with the newly formed ABL and Team USA basketball squads.
