The 1998-99 FDU-Florham men’s basketball team will take their rightful place in the Devils Hall of Fame. The Devils squad was led by the winningest coach in program history, Roger Kindel. The team capped off their 21-7 season (10-4 record in MAC play) with an appearance in the MAC Tournament, as well as the program’s first-ever ECAC Championship. The Devils captured the ECAC title by way of a 65-54 win over Montclair State. During the season, the Devils held a perfect 6-0 record over fellow New Jersey colleges. The championship roster included two FDU Hall of Famers and team MVP’s in seniors Kevin Kretschy and Bill Timony. Both Kretschy and Timony received 1998-99 MAC honors, with Timony gaining First Team All-Conference and Krestchy earning Second Team accolades Timony led his team in points per game and rebounds per game, with 19.2 and 9.3. Timony used his stellar season to leave himself a spot in the FDU record books as the program’s current fourth all-time leading scorer. Kretschy was second on the team in scoring, as he averaged17.6 points-per-game. Upon graduating, he joined the 1,000-point club and currently ranks 16th all-time in program history with 1172 career points. The team also featured senior Erik Beshore, who in the 1998-99 season broke the program record in 3-point field goals made with 74 and a 91.5 free throw percentage. Both numbers still hold the top spot on the single-season list. Sophomore Harry Vega dished out a team-high 145 assists on the season.
