Coach Kindel served over 40 years at FDU-Florham as both a coach and an administrator for the department. He coached the men's basketball team for 28 years (1978-2005) and the men's golf team for 29 years (1989-2018). Roger also served as the Associate Athletic Director and ended his tenure at FDU-Florham when he stepped in as the Interim Athletic Director before retiring in 2018.

In 2016, Kindel received the Middle Atlantic Conference's Lou Sorrentino Award, presented to the MAC athletics administrator who's had a sustained and influential role in conference and national affairs, and embodies the NCAA Division III philosophy.

In 2013, he won the prestigious University Pillar Award, which honors those who have made extraordinary contributions to Fairleigh Dickinson and have been with the University for more than 10 years.

During his time as the men's basketball head coach, he amassed 334 wins, reached the NCAA Tournament in 1990 and 1998, competed in the ECAC tournament seven times, including winning the ECAC championship in 1999 and made the MAC Freedom Tournament 9 times.

As the men's golf head coach, he guided the Devils to four consecutive Freedom Conference Tournament Championships from 2005-2009 and an additional one in 2013. Kindel coached men's golf to four NCAA Tournament appearances and won Freedom Coach of the Year five times as well as five Conference Players of the Year.
