Mike Ortiz was a four-year letter winner from 1996-99 as a linebacker on the football team.

In 1999, he tied the single game record when he recorded 3.5 sacks. Mike would total 10.0 during the 1999 campaign, which is second best in a season. His 21 career quarterback sacks are the third most ever by a Devil in a career.

Mike was selected First Team All-MAC Freedom in 1999, while also claiming Second Team honors in 1997 and 1998. A team captain, he was named the 1999 FDU Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, prior to his senior season, he became the first player in school history to be named a preseason All-American. As a preseason All-American, Mike was one of the top eight linebackers in the country.

During the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first football team in 2013, Mike was named as one of the members of the 40th Anniversary Team. Of the 66 players named to the 40th Anniversary Team, Mike is one of 13 members that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Presently, Mike is a Special Education Teacher at Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, N.J.
