The Tom Wilkinson Come Back Player of the Year Award is presented to the student-athlete who has prevailed over adversity and significantly contributed to his or her team.
The Tom Wilkinson Award was named for the former Head Athletic Trainer of FDU-Florham, Tom Wilkinson Sr.
Tom Wilkinson became the Head Athletic Trainer at FDU-Florham in September 1987 and spent 29 years as a Devil before he retired in 2016. A 1975 graduate of James Madison University, Tom spent the first nine years of his career working in professional football. He worked as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the World Football League with the Florida Blazers, the Charlotte Hornets, and in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. He worked as a Head Athletic Trainer in the United States Football League with the Tampa Bay Bandits and Washington Federals. In 1999, the National Athletic Trainers Association recognized Tom for 25 years of membership.
