A three-sport coach, Hallie Cohen won 395 games during her tenure at FDU. Cohen compiled a 117-96-16 record in 17 years of field hockey, a 195-155-1 record in 16 years of softball, and a 52-37 record in four years of basketball.
She led the field hockey team to two appearances in the NCAA tournament, first going in 1984 and then again in1986. The 1986 team’s record still stands as the best in school history. The 11-3-1 record of 1984’s team ranks as bedt in school history. It should also be noted just how highly competitive the Middle Atlantic Conference was. In 1984, three MAC teams made the 16-team NCAA tournament, and four made it in 1986. In 1984, Devils lost in the MAC playoffs to Messiah, the eventual NCAA runner-up.
In softball, Cohen led the team to the MAC Tournament in 1989 and 1993. She also led the team to Eastern College Athletic Conference berths for five straight seasons from 1986 through 1990.
Cohen also managed to lead the basketball team to the MAC playoffs for 85-86 season.
Cohen has coached William Paterson’s softball team for the past nine seasons and is currently in her ninth season of coaching field hockey with the Pioneers. She notched her 400th career softball coaching win last spring, and earned her 200th career field hockey victory earlier this season. She has led the softball team to the NCAA tournament in three of the last four seasons and also led the field hockey to the NCAAs 2000.
Cohen was a scholarship athlete at Rutgers University in both softball and field hockey. She also walked on to the basketball team.
She resides in Succasunna.
