Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, NC (March 7, 2020)- FDU Softball dropped a non-conference doubleheader to William Peace University on Sunday, losing game one, 12-1 and game two, 6-0. With the losses, the Devils fall to 0-6 on the season while monarchs improve to 4-8 after the sweep.
GAME ONE
FDU got the offense going in the top of the first inning, as senior
Gabby Young led the game off with a single. Young continued to create, stealing second and third base with senior
Tara Morash at the dish. Morash would walk on a wild pitch as Young came in to score, giving the Devils an early 1-0 lead. The Pacers would respond in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on four hits, taking a 4-1 lead. From there, William Peace would control the game, scoring eight more runs and finishing off the 12-1 victory.
Morash and Young collected the only two hits of the game for FDU.
GAME TWO
Both starters kept the game scoreless through two and a half innings, before William Peace finally broke through in the bottom of the third. The Pacers scratched across two runs on three hits off of Devils sophomore starter,
Kaleigh Oplinger, to take a 2-0 advantage. William Peace added four more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 6-0 victory.
In the game, junior
Hunter Ruppel swung a hot bat, going 3-for-3 at the dish and leading the Devils in hits during the doubleheader. Morash, who continued her hot week, recorded another hit and finished with two hits combined in the two games.
LEAD DEVILS
GM1: Young played great offensively for the Devils, recording a hit, two stolen bases and the only FDU run of the game.
GM2: Ruppel had a perfect day at the plate, finishing game two with three hits in three plate appearances.
