Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, NC (March 12, 2020)- FDU Softball fell to Pfeiffer University on Thursday in a doubleheader, dropping game 1, 12-1, and falling in game two, 8-0. With the losses, the Devils fall to 0-12 on the season and the Falcons improve to 16-1.
GAME 1- FDU 1, Pfeiffer 12
The Falcons were hot all game, scoring four runs in the first, five in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. Pfeiffer combined for 14 hits and 12 runs on the day. FDU had four different players record a hit during the game, seniors
Gabby Young and
Tara Morash, junior
Hunter Ruppel and sophomore
Morgan DeLoreto. The Devils scored their run in the top of the fifth inning, after Ruppel led off getting hit by a pitch. Junior
Taylor Tobey followed that with a walk, before Young grounded out to advance both runners. Morash then drove an RBI single up the middle of the field, scoring Ruppel and ending the Falcons shutout. Pfeiffer would record the next two outs to seal the game one victory.
GAME 2 – FDU 0, Pfeiffer 8
Devils senior starter
Megan Zaccario kept the Falcon's offense at bay, with the game scoreless headed into the third inning. Pfeiffer finally broke through, scoring six runs in the bottom of the third on six hits. The Falcons would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth, tacking on two more runs and increasing their lead to 8-0. FDU recorded three hits in the game, with one coming off the bat of Morash and two from freshman
Kristina Pelano.
LEAD DEVILS
GM 1: It was a four headed monster leading the offensive charge for FDU in game one, Young, Morash, Ruppel and DeLoreto all recorded a hit in the contest.
GM 2: The young backstop, Pelano continues to see the ball well, going a clean 2-for-2 at the dish, with two singles in the second game.
COACHES THOUGHTS
"We've had a very rough season to this point and now it's worse with the suspension of play. My hope is we get to play out the season and catch enough fire to qualify for MAC's." – Head Coach
