ANNVILLE, Pa. – FDU-Florham sophomore wide receiver
Malik Pressley capped another record-breaking season by earning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Offensive Player of the Year award on Tuesday morning. Pressley, who also received All-MAC First Team honors, was joined by senior quarterback
Tyler Maurer and sophomore right tackle
Robert Coyle, who each received honorable mention recognition.
After earning the MAC 2014 Rookie of the Year award last season, Pressley becomes the first-ever FDU-Florham football player to earn MAC Offensive Player of the Year. The second-year wide out has rewritten the record books since his arrival in Madison.
Pressley was nearly unstoppable this season. His 18 touchdown receptions were second most in the nation, while he hauled in a MAC-record 89 catches this season, breaking his own mark of 78 from a season ago. His 8.9 receptions per game were the sixth most this season in NCAA Division III. Also, Pressley's 1,152 yards are the second most in the program's history.
In just two seasons, Pressley has the second most receptions in school history (167), second most touchdowns (25), and third most receiving yards (1,969). The sophomore began the season with a program single-game record 309 receiving yards and also had a record-breaking five touchdown catch game.
Much of Pressley's success can be attributed to senior signal caller
Tyler Maurer. Maurer, earns honorable mention recognition following a 22-touchdown season, in which he completed 165 passes at a 59.8 percent rate and amassed 1,740 yards through the air. The senior quarterback battled through a leg injury and still registered the second-most passing touchdowns in FDU-Florham history, despite missing three-plus games. In just two seasons, Maurer racked up 32 touchdowns and 3,705 passing yards, which are the third and fourth most all-time by a Devil, respectively. He is also the most accurate passer in school history, completing passes at a 60 percent rate.
Coyle nabs his first All-MAC recognition following a stellar second season with the Devils. The second-year tackle did an excellent job of warding off pass rushers all season long. Coyle's work in the trenches allowed the Devils to set several different passing records as he offered Maurer and the other Devils signal callers the necessary time to complete throws down field.
The 2015 Devils posted a 3-7 mark, which is their largest win total since 2008. They also snapped a 24-game winless streak against Wilkes University with a thrilling 29-26 win back on September 26.
