Three Student-Athletes Named to 2025 Academic All-MAC Football Team

NEWTOWN, Pa. – Executive Director for the MAC, Megan Morrison, announced the 2025 Academic All-MAC team for football Wednesday morning, as a total of 22 football student-athletes were recognized for academic and athletic prowess.
 
The Fall Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2025 fall semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic and athletic success. A student-athlete must finish the fall semester with a GPA of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award.
 
The FDU-Florham football team featured three student-athletes on the 2025 Football Academic All-MAC Team as seniors Matt Heineman and Andrike Terry Jr. were joined by sophomore Mike Barzal in being recognized. 
 
Heineman, a finance major from Staten Island, N.Y. earned his second career Fall Academic Honor Roll and now his first career Academic All-MAC selection after a career year. The 6" 1' defensive lineman earned All-ECAC First Team Defense for the first time in his career and was named First Team All-MAC. The N.Y. native led the MAC in sacks with 9.0 and was tied for 21st in the nation in the stat. His 14.0 TFLs were the most in the MAC and his 67 total tackles were good for eighth overall. His 62 yards for loss were also the top mark in the MAC.
 
He tallied a season-high 13 tackles against King's on Sept. 20 and included two quarterback hits, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
 
In FDU's 52-3 win over Alvernia on Nov. 15, Heineman became FDU's all-time career sacks leader with 27 after notching two against the Golden Wolves.
 
Terry Jr., a Linden, N.J. native was named to the 2025 Fall Academic Honor Roll, his second straight year earning the honor. This was the first time in his career Terry Jr. was named to the Academic All-MAC team after a successful year on and off the field. The film major was named Second Team All-MAC in 2025. He tallied 53 catches for 607 yards and four touchdowns. On Sept. 20 against King's, the senior recorded a season-long 70-yard reception and game-high 127 receiving yards. His 53 receptions were good for fourth most in the MAC and was second in the conference in receptions per game with 5.3. 
 
Barzal, a sophomore also from Staten Island, earned a spot on the 2025 Academic All-MAC Football team for the first time in his career. A sports management major, Barzal was named Second Team All-MAC for special teams. In four games played this season, Barzal tallied four total tackles, three solo and one assisted. He managed one punt return for 14 yards, a blocked punt and a score in FDU's 52-3 win over Alvernia on Nov. 15.
 
This is the second straight year three FDU players were named to the Academic All-MAC football team.
