Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The FDU-Florham softball team dropped their opening contest in the Freedom Conference Tournament 8-1 to King's College on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils (17-15) will take take on Misericordia University tomorrow in an elimination game at 9:00 a.m. The Lady Monarchs moved on and lost to Manhattanville College in their second game of the tournament on Friday evening. King's (27-9) will take on the winner of the FDU-Florham and Misericordia University game at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
On Friday, the Devils fell behind 3-0 in the first inning. Two runs scored on King's designated player
Maggie Gola's home run. In the top of the second, a walk and a single set the table for sophomore
Jaclyn Herrington (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington). Herrington singled to left, which cut the deficit to 3-1.
Unfortunately, King's starter
Karissa Kross silenced the Devils bats the rest of the way and the Lady Monarchs went on to earn the comfortable win. Kross went seven innings, allowed two hits and one run to earn the victory.
FDU-Florham sophomore
Nikki Caruso (Madison, N.J./Madison) managed the Devils only other hit in the game and finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Lady Monarchs totaled 14 hits on the day, led by Gola's 2-for-4 and two RBI.
