Softball Falls to Elmira and Stevens in ECAC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GALLOWAY, N.J. – The FDU-Florham softball team dropped the final two games of their 2014 season, falling to Stevens Institute of Technology and Elmira College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament. The Devils (18-18) were defeated 8-2 by Stevens in the opener and blanked 1-0 by Elmira College.

Senior left fielder Brittni Wurst (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) totaled three hits on the day and set a new  single-season hits record for the Devils with 53 this year.

In the first game of the day, the Devils and Ducks faced off for the third time this season. Back in March, Stevens swept a doubleheader from FDU-Florham in Madison.

The Ducks (29-11) jumped on the Devils with five runs and four hits in the first inning to claim a 5-0 lead. Stevens senior Stephanie Senkevich delivered the big blow with a three-run double.

In the top of the second, FDU-Florham freshman Paige Lillie (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) plated Wurst with a single down the right field line for the Devils first run of the game. After two scoreless frames, the Ducks tacked on three more runs to their lead and increased their cushion to 8-1.

FDU-Florham was unable to recover and scored their second and final run of the day on a solo blast by sophomore Jaclyn Herrington (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) in the seventh inning

Wurst's bunt single in the second inning was her 51st hit of the season, which broke the previous record of 50 held by Kelly Nover. The senior left fielder finishes her career with 176 hits, which ranks second all-time and one shy of Nover's record of 177.

In game two, the Devils were unable to generate offense against Elmira College starter Emilie Rogers. Rogers limited FDU-Florham to just three hits and struck out seven, en route to the complete game victory.

The Soaring Eagles (17-14) scored the only run of the game, which was unearned, on a single by junior Megan Anderson. FDU-Florham starter Amanda Finn (Massapequa, N.Y./Saint Dominic) was outstanding and went the distance, limiting Elmira to five hits and the one unearned run but earned a tough luck loss in her final outing of the season.
