FDU-Florham claimed the first game 4-1, before winning game two 11-2 in five innings.
In game one, sophomore right-hander
Sydney Worek (Bordentown, N.J./Florence Township) pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run and five hits, while striking out six to earn the victory. The Devils rolled to a five-inning victory in game two, which was finalized by sophomore
Jenna Appello's (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) three-run blast.
Game One:In the home half of the first, senior designated player
Sarah Lima (Stanfordville, N.Y./Pine Plains) smacked a single, which plated
Brittni Wurst (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North). Sophomore catcher
Wynne McCann (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) followed with a solo homer, her team-leading fifth long ball of the season, and gave the Devils a 2-0 lead.
That proved to be plenty of run support for Worek, who limited the Cougars to five hits and earned her seventh victory of the season. Appello, Lima and sophomore
Nikki Caruso (Madison, N.J./Madison) all tallied two-hit efforts for the Devils in the win.
Game Two:The Devils opened the game with a bang, as Appello crushed a two-run homer over the left field fence, which was promptly followed by a solo home run by McCann. FDU-Florham led 3-0 after one inning of play.
In the bottom of the third, freshman starter
Amanda Finn (Massapequa, N.Y./Saint Dominic) helped her own cause by knocking in two runs with a single. The Devils added two more in the fourth and held an 8-1 lead. After the Cougars got a run back in the fifth inning, Appello ended the game with a three-run homer to dead center field.
Senior third baseman
Kristie Crilley (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) made several outstanding plays at the hot-corner and finished the game with nine assists in the win.
