Box Score 2 WILKES BARRE, Pa. – The FDU-Florham softball team dropped a doubleheader to King's College on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Devils led 8-7 in the 11
th inning before the Lady Monarchs stole the game with a two-run, two-out single. The Lady Monarchs claimed game two 8-0 and knocked the Devils into the third seed for this week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
With the loss, the Devils (16-13, 9-5 Freedom) drop to the third spot in the Freedom Conference, while the Lady Monarchs (26-8, 10-4 Freedom) move up to the second seed. These two teams will square off again on Friday in the opening round of the Freedom tournament.
Game OneAfter two scoreless innings, the Devils got the bats going in the top of the third. With one on, senior
Sarah Lima (Stanfordville, N.Y./Pine Plains) plated a run with a single to left center field. The next batter, sophomore catcher
Wynne McCann (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) launched her seventh home run of the season, which put the Devils in front 3-0.
However, the Lady Monarchs responded with a five-run home half of the third. King's recorded the damage with four run-scoring singles and a sacrifice fly.
FDU-Florham countered in the top of the sixth. Senior third baseman
Kristie Crilley (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) knocked in a run with a double to center field and fellow senior
Maggie Murphy scored Crilley with a single up the middle to cut the Lady Monarchs' lead to one.
The Devils evened the score in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring single by Crilley. The game remained tied until the top of the 10
th inning, when sophomore
Jaclyn Herrington (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) drove McCann in with a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI-single by sophomore
Amy Kowalczyk, which sent the contest into the 11
th.
Devils sophomore
Nikki Caruso (Madison, N.J./Madison) put the Devils in front once again with a run-scoring single, unfortunately, King's senior
Erin Beane ended the game with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the inning to give the Lady Monarchs the victory.
Game TwoGame two of the doubleheader was all King's. the Lady Monarchs jumped on the Devils with three runs in the first frame and never looked back.
Senior
Karissa Kross kept the Devils bats in check and limited FDU-Florham to just three hits in the game.
