Box Score 2 PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The FDU-Florham Devils softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to St. Joseph's College (Long Island) 5-3, and 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
With the losses the Devils drop to 13-10 overall, while the Golden Eagles improve to 18-10 on the season.
Game One:The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, however, the Devils fought back to tie the game with a solo blast by sophomore
Wynne McCann (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) and an RBI-single by
Sarah Lima (Stanfordville, N.Y./Pine Plains).
St. Joseph's regained the lead in the home half of the third thanks a run-scoring single by junior
Nicole Reda. The Golden Eagles tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth and led 5-2 through four innings of play.
In the top of the sixth, the Devils loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to scratch across a run. An inning later, Lima delivered a sacrifice fly but the Golden Eagles held on for the 5-3 win.
Game Two:
The second game of the doubleheader featured a pitcher's battle between Devils freshman right-hander
Amanda Finn (Massapequa, N.Y./Saint Dominic) and Golden Eagles starter
Amanda Eremita.
After five scoreless frames, the Golden Eagles took advantage of an error to score the game's lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, the Devils threatened with a leadoff single by McCann and a double by third baseman
Kristie Crilley (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield). Unfortunately, Eremita escaped by retiring the next three batters in order to preserve the one-run lead and the victory for St. Joseph's.
Despite not allowing an earned run and tossing a complete game five-hitter, Finn took the loss to drop to 6-3 on the season, while Eremita improved to 5-3 on the campaign.
