Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - Freshman first baseman
Wynne McCann hit two home runs in the first game and two more in the nightcap as the College at Florham Devils swept a non-conference doubleheader from Staten Island, 9-0 (5) and 14-6 (5), on Sunday afternoon. The four home runs gives McCann 11 on the season and now ranks her first All-Time in FDU history in single-season home runs, surpassing the previous mark of 10 set by
Megan McInaw.
With the sweep, the Devils are now 20-18 while the Dolphins are 19-14.
GAME ONE - FDU started the scoring in the first inning with a RBI groundout from junior catcher
Sarah Lima and a solo home run by McCann. The Devils grabbed a 3-0 edge in the bottom of the third thanks to a RBI single by Lima before taking a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run error by the Dolphins. FDU put the game away in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run from McCann and a two-run walk-off double by junior outfielder
Brittni Wurst.
Wurst finished the game 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, a double, two runs scored and two RBI while McCann went 2-for-3 with two home runs, two runs scored and two RBI. Lima also knocked in two runs while sophomore third baseman
Christina Legotti had two hits and two runs scored. Senior pitcher
Karla Babb picked up the win on Senior Day, tossing five innings while allowing no runs on three hits.
GAME TWO - After two scoreless innings, Staten Island plated three runs in the top of the third but FDU responed with five in their half of the third thanks to a RBI double from junior shortstop
Maggie Murphy, a RBI single by Lima, a Dolphin error, and a two-run home run from McCann. The Devils plated five more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 10-3 advantage on a three-run home run by Lima, a solo home run from McCann, and a sacrifice fly by Legotti. The Dolphins cut it to 10-6 in the top of the fifth but FDU ended things with four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run home run by junior second baseman
Kristie Crilley and a walk-off RBI single by Legotti.
McCann finished the game 2-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBI, Lima went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI, Murphy was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI, and Wurst went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and three runs scored. Freshman pitcher
Sydney Worek notched the win, going five innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out four.
The Devils return to action on Monday, April 29, 2013, with their regular season finale at home against Rutgers-Newark beginning at 3 pm.
