Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils dropped a pair of Freedom Conference games to King's on Saturday afternoon, losing by a score of 7-4 in the opener and a count of 11-2 in the nightcap.
With the sweep, the Devils are now 17-15 (8-6 Freedom) while the Monarchs are 23-5 (11-1 Freedom).
GAME ONE - King's got on the board right away with two runs in the top of the first inning but FDU cut it to 2-1 in their half of the first thanks to a RBI double from junior shortstop
Maggie Murphy. The Devils tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by junior second baseman
Kristie Crilley but King's came back with two in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. FDU came right back though, plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single from junior catcher
Sarah Lima but the Monarchs broke the tie with three runs in the top of the seventh to earn the 7-4 victory.
Lima finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI while freshman outfielder
Nicole Decker went 2-for-3. Freshman pitcher
Sydney Worek suffered the loss, tossing seven innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits while striking out six.
GAME TWO - It was a pitcher's duel for the first five innings of the nightcap with the Devils holding a 2-1 lead after five. King's got their run in the top of the third but FDU tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a RBI single from Lima. FDU grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a King's error. The Monarchs blew the game open in the top of the sixth when they plated eight runs to take a 9-2 lead before adding two more in the seventh to seal the 11-2 win and the sweep.
Lima went 3-for-4 with a RBI in the game while Crilley also went 3-for-4. Senior pitcher
Brianne Conanan started the game and picked up a no-decision, going 6.1 innings and allowing eight runs on six hits while striking out six. Worek took the loss in relief, throwing 0.2 innings and allowing three runs on three hits.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Kean beginning at noon.
