Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils swept a non-conference doubleheader from cross-town rival Drew on Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener by a score of 6-5 before taking the nightcap by a count of 4-3.
With the sweep, the Devils are now 17-13 while the Rangers are 11-19.
GAME ONE - FDU got on the board first with four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a bases loaded walk from junior second baseman
Kristie Crilley, a RBI single by junior outfielder
Toni-ann Canova, and a two-run single from senior outfielder
Karla Babb. Drew cut it to 4-1 in the top of the second before making it 4-3 in the top of the third. The Devils grabbed a 5-3 advantage in their half of the third on a solo home run from Crilley before they added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-3 on a RBI double by junior shortstop
Maggie Murphy. Drew cut it to 6-4 in the top of the sixth and they pulled to within 6-5 in the top of the seventh but the Devils got out of a jam, the Rangers had the tying run on third base with two outs, to pick up the win.
Babb finished the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBI while junior catcher
Sarah Lima also had two hits. Freshman pitcher
Sydney Worek picked up the win, tossing seven innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO - The Devils scored first again in the nightcap but this time they only plated one run on a RBI single from Lima. FDU made it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt by freshman outfielder
Nicole Decker. Lima gave the Devils a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run to left-center field but Drew responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to cut it to 4-3. In that top of the sixth inning, the first five batters got on for Drew before senior pitcher
Brianne Conanan come on in relief to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam that kept the score at 4-3. In the top of the seventh, the Rangers got their first batter of the inning on base but Conanan recorded the next three outs to help the Devils to the sweep.
Lima finished the game 2-for-3 2ith a home run, a run scored and two RBI while junior designated player
Brittni Wurst went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a double, and two runs scored. Freshman pitcher
Jaclyn Herrington earned the win on the rubber, going five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three. Conanan picked up the save, tossing two scoreless innings.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at home against King's beginning at 1 pm.
