Devils Split With Staten Island In Season Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College at Florham Devils split a doubleheader with Staten Island on Sunday afternoon, winning the first game by a score of 6-3 before dropping the nightcap by a margin of 5-4.

With the split, the Devils finish the 2012 season with a record of 14-19.

GAME ONE - FDU started the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single from senior pitcher Megan McInaw before making it 3-0 in the top of the third thanks to RBI sinlges by McInaw and senior outfielder Brianne Faynor.  Staten Island came back to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth but the Devils responded with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh on a two-run double from McInaw and a RBI single by Faynor.

McInaw finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI while Faynor went 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Junior first baseman Elizabeth Spiller and sophomore outfielder Brittni Wurst each had two hits.  McInaw also picked up the win on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five.

GAME TWO - The Dolphins struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning before FDU grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on a Dolphin error, a sacrifice fly by McInaw and a RBI single from Faynor.  Staten Island got those three runs back in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead but FDU plated on run in the top of the seventh thanks to a sacrifice fly from senior third baseman Megan Golembiewski.  The Devils had the tying run on first with two outs but Staten Island got out of the jam to earn the split.

Faynor, Wurst, junior shortstop Christine Antoniotti and sophomore outfielder Toni-ann Canova all had two hits for FDU.  Junior pitcher Karla Babb suffered the loss, throwing five innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out four.
