Devils Swept By Delaware Valley, 5-4 And 14-7

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils were swept in a Freedom Conference doubleheader by Delaware Valley, 5-4 and 14-7 (8), on Saturday afternoon.  The pair of losses means that the Devils are now eliminated from the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.

With the losses, the Devils are now 13-15 (4-8 Freedom) while the Aggies are 14-15 (4-8 Freedom).

GAME ONE - The Aggies got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning before FDU grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a RBI single from junior first baseman Elizabeth Spiller and a RBI double by senior pitcher Megan McInaw.  The Devils made it 3-1 in the fourth thanks to a RBI fielder's choice by sophomore outfielder Brittni Wurst before Delaware Valley cut it to 3-2 in the top of the fifth.  FDU got that run right back in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single from sophomore designated hitter Kristie Crilley but Del Val tied it at 4-4 in the top of the sixth before scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh.

McInaw finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and RBI at the plate while suffering the loss on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits while striking out nine.

GAME TWO - Del Val again got started in the first inning, this time scoring two runs before FDU cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from senior outfielder Brianne Faynor.  The Devils then grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second on an Aggie error and a RBI single by Spiller.  The Aggies got two in the third and one in the fourth to grab a 4-3 advantage before FDU made it 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a RBI single by McInaw, a RBI single from freshman third baseman Christine Legotti and a RBI single by junior pitcher Karla Babb.  This time it was Del Val's turn to come back, as the Aggies went back up by a score of 7-6 in the top of the sixth but FDU tied it at 7-7 in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI single by Faynor.  The game stayed tied heading into the top of the eighth inning when the Aggies plated seven runs to pull away for the win.

Faynor finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI while Spiller was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI.  Babb started and got a no-decision, throwing five innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits.  Senior pitcher Megan Golembiewski took the loss in relief, going 2.1 innings and allowing nine runs on 10 hits.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at home against Drew beginning at noon.
