Devils Swept By Eastern, 3-1 And 14-5

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. DAVIDS, PA - The College at Florham Devils were swept by Eastern in a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, losing the first game by a score of 3-1 before falling in the second game by a margin of 14-5 in five innings.

With the pair of losses, the Devils are now 12-12 (4-6 Freedom) while the Eagles are 18-11 (7-3 Freedom).

GAME ONE - Eastern got all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning before FDU cut it to 3-1 in the top of the fourth on a RBI groundout by freshman designated hitter Jackie Gioia.  The Devils threatened again in the sixth, getting two runners on with one out, but couldn't push across any runs and the Eagles held on for the victory.

Senior outfielder Brianne Faynor was the only Devils with a multi-hit game as she finished 2-for-2.  Senior pitcher Megan McInaw suffered the loss, tossing six innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven.

GAME TWO - The Devils struck first in the second game, plating three runs in the top of the first on a two-run double by McInaw and a RBI groundout from senior third baseman Megan Golembiewski.  Eastern came right back in the bottom of the first though, scoring five runs, but the Devils tied it at 5-5 in the top of the second thanks to a RBI single from junior shortstop Christine Antoniotti and a RBI single by McInaw.  The Eagles were not deterred though, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second before adding a run in the third and three more in the fourth to get the win.

McInaw finished the game 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and three RBI while sophomore outfielder Brittni Wurst went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.  Junior pitcher Karla Babb suffered the loss, going 1.2 innings and allowing 10 runs (five earned) on seven hits.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at home against Kean beginning at 12 pm.
