Devils Split With Wilkes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE, PA - The College at Florham Devils split a Freedom Conference doubleheader with Wilkes on Wednesday afternoon, losing the first game by a score of 3-2 before bouncing back to win the second game by a margin of 12-3 in five innings.

With the split, the Devils are now 12-10 (4-4 Freedom) while the Colonels are 5-13 (2-6 Freedom).

GAME ONE - It was a scoreless game until the top of the fifth inning when FDU grabbed a 1-0 lead on a bases loaded walk to senior outfielder Brianne Faynor.  Wilkes came right back in the bottom of the fifth though, plating three runs with two outs in the inning.  Junior first baseman Elizabeth Spiller pulled the Devils to within 3-2 in the top of the sixth on a solo home run but that's as close as they would get as the Colonels picked up the win.

Spiller finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and a RBI.  Senior pitcher Megan McInaw took the loss, going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10.

GAME TWO - After Wilkes took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, FDU plated four runs in the top of the third on a RBI single from Spiller, a two-run double by McInaw and a Wilkes error.  Wilkes cut it to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth but the Devils put the game away with eight runs in the top of the fifth thanks to a three-run home run by Faynor, a wild pitch, a RBI single by junior shortstop Christine Antoniotti and a three-run double by McInaw.

McInaw finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBI while Antoniotti went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.  Spiller was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and a RBI while Faynor went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and three RBI.  Junior pitcher Karla Babb picked up the win, tossing five innings while allowing three runs on five hits.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Eastern beginning at 1 pm.
