Box Score 2 NEWARK, NJ - The College at Florham Devils split a non-conference doubleheader with Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday afternoon, winning the first game by a score of 12-6 before dropping the nightcap, 8-2. In the first game, senior outfielder
Ronica Sorice broke the FDU career stolen bases record of 51 previously held by
Kelly Nover.
With the split, the Devils are now 8-6.
GAME ONE - FDU started the scoring with three runs in the top of the first on a RBI groundout by sophomore catcher
Sarah Lima, a RBI single from senior third baseman
Megan Golembiewski and a RBI single by junior shortstop
Christine Antoniotti. The Devils made it 4-0 in the top of the second thanks to an error before Newark cut it to 4-1 in the bottom of the second. FDU added two more in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Golembiewski and another error. Newark cut it to 6-5 in their half of the fourth but the Devils came back with three in the fifth thanks to a RBI single by Sorice, a RBI single from Lima, and a RBI single by Golembiewski. FDU added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a RBI double by Lima, a RBI single from Golembiewski, and a RBI single by Antoniotti. Newark got one back in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as the Devils picked up the win.
Sorice finished the game 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, four runs scored and a RBI while Golembiewski went 3-for-4 with a run scored and five RBI. Lima was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Senior pitcher
Megan McInaw earned the win on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out eight.
GAME TWO - Newark started the scoring first in the second game, plating three runs in the bottom of the first before making it 4-0 in the bottom of the second. FDU cut it to 4-1 in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by senior second baseman
Brianne Faynor but Newark came right back with three runs in their half of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The Devils made it 7-2 in the top of the fifth thanks to a solo home run from Lima but Newark got that run back in the bottom of the sixth on the way to an 8-2 victory.
Sophomore outfielder
Brittni Wurst was the only Devils with multiple hits, as she went 2-for-3. Golembiewski suffered the loss on the mound, tossing an inning and allowing three runs on four hits. Junior pitcher
Karla Babb came on in relief to throw five innings, allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at home with their Freedom Conference opener against Misericordia beginning at 1 pm.
