Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils swept a doubleheader from Stevens on Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game by a score of 3-0 before jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the nightcap and holding on for an 8-7 victory.
With the pair of wins, the Devils improved to 7-3.
GAME ONE - FDU got off to a quick start, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on a Stevens error. The Devils grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a solo home run from freshman outfielder
Sam Trotta before taking a 3-0 advantage in the sixth on a RBI double by senior pitcher
Megan McInaw.
McInaw earned the win on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing no runs on four hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO - The Devils plated two in the first on a Duck error and a RBI single from McInaw. FDU then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI double by junior first baseman
Elizabeth Spiller, a two-run home from sophomore catcher
Sarah Lima, a RBI single by McInaw, and a two-run double from sophomore outfielder
Toni-ann Canova. Stevens slowly crept back into it though, scoring a run in the third and two in the fourth to make it 8-3. The Ducks then closed to 8-6 in the top of the sixth and had second and third with one out in the top of the seventh. Stevens then ripped a single to right center field to score a run but senior outfielder
Ronica Sorice came up throwing and nailed the tying run at the plate to keep the score 8-7. The Devils were able to retire the next batter to earn the sweep.
McInaw finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI while Spiller went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Junior pitcher
Karla Babb got the win on the hill, throwing five innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on 13 hits. McInaw picked up the save, tossing the seventh inning and allowing one run on two hits.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 24, 2012, with their Freedom Conference opener at Wilkes beginning at 1 pm.
