MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils split a non-conference doubleheader with Staten Island on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon, winning Game One by a score of 5-3 before losing the nightcap by a count of 6-2.
With the split, the Devils are now 14-17 while the Dolphins are 23-11.
GAME ONE - CSI got on the board with one run in the second and two in third to grab a 3-0 lead. FDU cut it to 3-1 in their half of the third on a RBI single from freshman outfielder
Brittni Wurst. The Devils then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth thanks to a three-run home run by freshman catcher
Sarah Lima before making it 5-3 in the sixth on a RBI single by Lima.
Lima finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and four RBI while Wurst went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Junior pitcher
Megan McInaw picked up the win, tossing seven innings and allowing three runs (zero earned) on five hits while striking out five.
GAME TWO - FDU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a State Island error. CSI cut it to 2-1 in the second and tied it at 2-2 in the third. The Dolphins then opened it up in the top of seventh when they plated four to earn the win and the split.
Wurst had two more hits in the second game while sophomore pitcher
Brianne Conanan took the loss in relief, going three innings and allowing four runs on five hits.
The Devils return to action on Friday, May 6, 2011, in the Freedom Conference Tournament against King's at King's beginning at 1 pm.
