Devils Split With Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA - The College at Florham Devils split a Freedom Conference doubleheader with Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon, losing Game One by a score of 6-4 before rebounding to win the nightcap by a 3-2 margin.

With the split, the Devils are now 8-12 (4-2 Freedom) while the Aggies are 8-12 (2-4 Freedom).

GAME ONE - The Aggies scored three runs in the first and two in the third to jump out to a 5-0 lead but FDU came back with three in the fourth on a RBI single by freshman outfielder Brittni Wurst and a two-run single from freshman catcher Sarah Lima.  The Devils then made it 5-4 in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by junior third baseman Megan Golembiewski but Del Val got that run back in the bottom half of the sixth and held on in the seventh to earn the win.

FDU finished with 15 hits the game but could only push across four runs.  Sophomore first baseman Elizabeth Spiller went 4-for-4 with a run scored while Lima, Wurst, senior outfielder Megan Boyle and sophomore shortstop Renee Migliacci each had two hits.  Junior pitcher Megan McInaw suffered the loss on the mound, going six innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out five.

GAME TWO - The Devils struck early in Game Two, plating two runs in the first on a RBI hit-by-pitch from Boyle and a RBI single by sophomore second baseman Christine Antoniotti.  FDU made it 3-0 in the second thanks to a RBI single from Lima but the Aggies scored two runs in their half of the second to cut it to 3-2.  That's when sophomore pitcher Karla Babb took over as she controlled the rest of the game and struck out the side in the seventh to get FDU the split.

Lima finished 3-for-4 with a RBI while Antoniotti and junior outfielder Ronica Sorice each had two hits.  Babb tossed a complete game seven innings, allowing two runs (both unearned) on four hits while striking out four.

The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at DeSales beginning at noon.
