MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils split a non-conference doubleheader with Rutgers-Newark on Thursday afternoon, winning Game One by a score of 10-1 (6) before dropping the nightcap by a count of 10-6.
With the split, the Devils are now 7-11 while the Scarlet Raiders are 5-15.
GAME ONE - The Devils scored at least one run in each of the first four innings and they score was 5-1 in favor of FDU heading into the bottom of the sixth when the Devils plated five runs on a RBI single by freshman designated hitter
Brittni Wurst, a Newark error, a RBI double from junior pitcher
Megan McInaw and a walk-off two-run home run by freshman catcher
Sarah Lima.
Lima finished the game with three RBI while McInaw added two RBI. Wurst, sophomore first baseman
Elizabeth Spiller and sophomore shortstop
Christine Antoniotti each had two hits in the game. McInaw picked up the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing one run on six hits.
GAME TWO - Newark came out hot to start the second game, jumping out to a 5-2 lead after four innings of play. In the bottom of the fifth, FDU rallied to to take a 6-5 lead thanks to two two-run singles by sophomore outfielder
Sam Greenwood and freshman second baseman
Maggie Murphy. The Scarlet Raiders came right back though, scoring five in the top of the sixth on their way to the 10-6 win.
Antoniotti went 3-for-4 in the second game while sophomore outfielder
Karla Babb went 2-for-2 with a RBI. Junior pitcher
Megan Golembiewski took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 14 hits.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Delaware Valley beginning at 1 pm.
