Devils Split With King's

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils split a Freedom Conference doubleheader with King's on Wednesday afternoon, winning Game One by a score of 6-5 before dropping the nightcap by a margin of 9-1 (5).

With the split, the Devils are now 6-10 (3-1 Freedom) while the Monarchs are 8-6 (4-2 Freedom).

GAME ONE - FDU got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by senior outfielder Megan Boyle.  King's tied it at 1-1 in the top of the third but FDU got two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly from junior pitcher Megan McInaw and a wild pitch.  The Devils went up 5-1 in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman Elizabeth Spiller and an error by King's.  FDU took a 6-1 advantage in the fifth on a solo home run from junior third baseman Megan Golembiewski.  King's got a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to cut it to 6-5 but FDU was able to hang on for the win.

Boyle was the offensive star for FDU, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI.  McInaw picked up the win on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing five runs (none earned) on nine hits while striking out eight.

GAME TWO - King's plated seven runs in the top of the first inning to take control of the game and added two more in the fourth to put it out of reach.  FDU scored their lone run in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from McInaw.

McInaw finished 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI at the plate.  Golembiewski took a no-decision coming out of the bullpen, as she tossed five innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits.

The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at home against Rutgers-Newark beginning at 3 pm.
