Lima's Walk-Off Grand Slam Gives Devils Sweep Of Eastern

MADISON, NJ - Trailing 7-6 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, freshman catcher Sarah Lima belted a grand slam to right center field to give the College at Florham Devils a dramatic 10-7 win over Eastern in Freedom Conference action on Sunday afternoon.  The Devils also won Game One by a score of 9-4.

With the wins, the Devils improved to 5-9 (2-0 Freedom) while the Eagles dropped to 11-7 (1-5 Freedom).

GAME ONE - Eastern got on the board first with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning but FDU got all three runs back in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by junior pitcher Megan McInaw and junior third baseman Megan Golembiewski and a sacrifice fly from sophomore second baseman Christine Antoniotti.  FDU made it 5-3 in the second thanks to a two-run double by Lima and 6-3 in the third on a RBI double from sophomore first baseman Elizabeth Spiller.  The Devils tacked on two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to grab a 9-3 advantage before Eastern scored their final run in the top of the seventh.

McInaw finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI while Lima went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.  In the game, the Devils had six different players with at least two hits.  McInaw also picked up the win on the mound, tossing seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while striking out eight.

GAME TWO - The Eagles jumped out to a quick start once again, this time scoring four runs in the top of the first.  The Devils got one back in the bottom of the first on a RBI walk from sophomore outfielder Karla Babb.  FDU then made it 4-3 in the second thanks to a two-run single from McInaw before taking a 5-4 lead in the third when Babb scored on a wild pitch and Spiller roped a RBI single.  Eastern went back ahead, 7-5, in the fifth but the theatrics really started in the bottom of the seventh.  Spiller delivered another RBI single to make it 7-6 and the Devils had bases loaded with no outs.  After a fielder's choice and a strike out, the bases were still loaded when Lima came up ended the game with a bomb to right center field.

Lima went 3-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and four RBI in the game while Spiller was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.  McInaw picked up the win on the mound again, this time in relief, as she tossed three innings and allowed one run (unearned) on three hits.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at home against King's beginning at 3 pm.
