MADISON, NJ - In a battle of the two teams with the best records in the Freedom Conference, the College at Florham Devils swept Manhattanville, 4-1 and 2-0, on Friday afternoon. The Devils now have to win only one of their two remaining conference games to clinch a spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference Tournament.
With the wins, the Devils improved to 13-13 (9-3 Freedom) while the Valiants dropped to 10-12 (7-4 Freedom).
GAME ONE - Manhattanville led off the game with a solo home run but that was all they would get as junior pitcher
Megan McInaw tossed a complete game seven innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out eight. The big inning for FDU came in the bottom of the second when they plated all four of their runs on a Manhattanville error, a RBI single by sophomore shorstop
Renee Migliacci, and a two-run error by the Valiants.
Freshman catcher
Sarah Lima finished with two hits and a run scored for FDU.
GAME TWO - The story of the second game was sophomore pitcher
Karla Babb, who tossed a complete game two-hit shutout to give the Devils the win. FDU scored their runs in the fourth, on a solo home run from McInaw, and the sixth, on a RBI single from junior third baseman
Megan Golembiewski.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at New Jersey City beginning at 3 pm.
