MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils dropped both games of a doubleheader against DeSales, 4-3 and 13-3 (6), in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in their 2010 season finale.
With the losses, the Devils finished the season with a record of 13-23 (3-11 Freedom) while the Bulldogs improved to 23-17 (12-2 Freedom).
GAME ONE - The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by sophomore pitcher
Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough). DeSales came back to grab a 2-1 lead in the top of the third but FDU responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 advantage thanks to a two-run single by sophomore catcher
Maria Dispenziere (Glenmoore, PA/Owen J. Roberts). The score remained that way until the top of the seventh inning but after FDU got the first out of the inning, a walk and a two-run home run gave DeSales a 4-3 lead. FDU got the lead-off man on in the bottom of the seventh but went down in order the rest of the way allowing the Bulldogs to escape.
McInaw finished the game with two hits and a RBI but she suffered the loss on the mound, going seven innings and allowing four runs on five hits.
GAME TWO - DeSales opened up a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and made it 4-0 in the fourth inning. The Devils cut it to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run single by senior shortstop
Marysa Cole (Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood) but the Bulldogs came right back with nine runs in the top of the sixth to take a 13-2 lead. FDU got one run back in their half of the sixth but it wasn't enough as DeSales earned the sweep.
Senior first baseman
Christine Heyl (Avon, NJ/St. Rose) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI while McInaw went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Sophomore pitcher
Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) took the loss, tossing four innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.
