PURCHASE, NY - The College at Florham Devils lost Game One of a doubleheader to Manhattanville, 5-2, before rebounding to win the second game, 3-1, in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.
With the split, the Devils are 7-13 (2-4 Freedom) while the Valiants are 7-8 (4-2 Freedom).
GAME ONE - Manhattanville got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning and made it 4-0 with three more runs in the bottom of the third. After the Valiants took a 5-0 advantage in the fourth, FDU plated their only two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run error.
Sophomore outfielder
Ronica Sorice (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) went 2-for-4 while sophomore pitcher
Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out 11 in six innings.
GAME TWO - The Valiants struck first again, this time with a run in the bottom of the third but FDU tied it at 1-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to a solo home run by freshman first baseman
Elizabeth Spiller (Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist). The Devils then tacked on the two winning runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run home run by junior outfielder
Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield). FDU held in the bottom of the seventh to earn the split.
Sophomore pitcher
Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) picked up the win, allowing one run (unearned) on nine hits while striking out six in seven innings.
The Devils return to action on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Rutgers-Newark beginning at 4 pm.
