Devils Sweep Cross-Town Rival Drew, 9-0 And 9-8

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils swept their cross-town rivals Drew, 9-0 (5) and 9-8 (8), in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.  Senior designated hitter Marysa Cole (Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood) had five RBI in Game One while the Devils scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game before pushing across two runs with one out in the bottom of the eighth to win Game Two.

With the sweep, the Devils improved to 10-16.

GAME ONE - FDU got the scoring started with a run in the second inning on a RBI single from Cole before taking a 4-0 lead in the third thanks to a RBI hit-by-pitch from senior first baseman Christine Heyl (Avon, NJ/St. Rose) and a two-run single by Cole.  The Devils put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on bases loaded walks by junior outfielder Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) and Heyl, another two-run single from Cole and a RBI single by freshman outfielder Karla Babb (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John).

Cole finished 3-for-3 with five RBI while sophomore third baseman Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) had three walks and three runs scored.  Sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight.

GAME TWO - Drew struck first in the nightcap with two runs in the top of the third but FDU got one back in the bottom half thanks to a sacrifice fly by Golembiewski.  Drew took a 3-1 lead int he fourth and a 5-1 lead in the fifth before the Devils tied it at 5-5 with four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Golembiewski, a two-run single by junior outfielder Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and a RBI single from Babb.  The Rangers came right back though, with two in the sixth to take a 7-5 advantage and the Devils were down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh before a Drew error made it 7-6 and a Babb RBI single tied the game at 7-7.  Drew plated one run in the top of the eighth and after FDU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth, a fielder's choice and a Ranger error allowed the Devils to come away with the sweep.

Boyle, Golembiewski and Babb each had two RBI while Golembiewski picked up a no-decision on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out five.  Babb notched the win in relief, going 1.1 scoreless innings.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Eastern beginning at 1 pm.
