Devils Sweep Stevens, 10-2 (5)

MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils swept Stevens, 10-2 in five innings, in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the wins, the Devils improved to 5-9.

GAME ONE - Stevens jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning but the Devils made it 2-1 in the bottom half on a Duck error.  FDU plated five in the second to grab a 6-2 lead thanks to an error, a two-run double by sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), a RBI single by junior catcher Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) and another error.  FDU scored four more in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on a solo home run by senior shortstop Marysa Cole (Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood) and a three-run homer from McInaw.

McInaw finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and six RBI at the plate while tossing five innings and allowing two runs (zero earned) on two hits to pick up the win on the mound.  Cole went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI while sophomore outfielder Ronica Sorice (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and three runs scored.

GAME TWO - FDU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI hit-by-pitch from junior catcher Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), a bases loaded walk by freshman first baseman Elizabeth Spiller (Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist) and a RBI single by freshman outfielder Samantha Greenwood (Riverton, NJ/Palmyra).  The Ducks cut it to 3-2 in the top of the second but FDU got those runs right back in the bottom half thanks to a RBI single from McInaw and a sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon).  The Devils tacked on two more in the third to make it 7-2 on a sacrifice fly by McInaw and a Stevens error.  FDU ended the game again in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs thanks to a solo home run from McInaw, a RBI double by Spiller and a wild pitch.

McInaw went 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while Spiller went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  Golembiewski chipped in two runs scored and two RBI.  Freshman pitcher Karla Babb (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John) picked up her first collegiate win, throwing five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out six.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 27, 2010, with their Freedom Conference opener at Wilkes beginning at 1 pm.
