CLERMONT, FL - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by New England College, 5-2, and Bowdoin, 6-3, on the fourth day of their Spring Break Trip on Wednesday afternoon.
With the losses, the Devils dropped to 2-6.
NEW ENGLAND - The Devils got off to a slow start, allowing New England to score two runs apiece in the top of the first inning and the top of the fourth inning. FDU cut it to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth but New England got that run back in their half of the seventh to make it 5-1. The Devils plated on run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-2 and had runners on second and third with one out, but FDU could not push across any more runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) tossed seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out eight. Sophomore outfielder
Ronica Sorice (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) finished with two singles and a RBI, sophomore designated hitter
Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) roped a single and a double while also knocking in a run, and junior catcher
Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) smacked a triple.
BOWDOIN - The opposition again jumped out quickly as Bowdoin posted two runs in the top half of the first inning. The Devils came back though, and tied it at 2-2 in the bottom of the third before Bowdoin got two more in the fifth to make it 4-2. Each team scored in the sixth inning to make it 5-3 and Bowdoin scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 advantage. The Devils got a lead-off hit from McInaw in the bottom of the seventh but could muster no more.
Golembiewski threw seven innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out five. Sorice belted a two-run triple while freshman first baseman
Elizabeth Spiller (Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist) added two hits.
The Devils return to action on Friday, March 19, 2010, against Geneseo beginning at 1:30 pm and against Keene State beginning at 3:30 pm.
