Devils Fall To Plattsburgh, Westfield State

CLERMONT, FL - The College at Florham Devils were defeated by Plattsburgh, 1-0, and Westfield State, 12-5, on the second day of their Spring Break Trip on Sunday afternoon.

With the losses, the Devils dropped to 0-4.

PLATTSBURGH - The lone run of the game was scored in the top of the fourth inning when Plattsburgh executed a suicide-squeeze to plate the run.  Sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was a stand-out on the mound and at the plate as she tossed seven innings and allowed one run on five hits while collecting two hits at bat.

WESTFIELD STATE - Westfield State got off to a hot start, opening up a 7-0 lead after two innings.  The Devils cut it to 7-3 after the top of third thanks to a RBI single by junior outfielder Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and a two-run double by sophomore pitcher Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon).  Westfield came right back in their half of the third though, and put up two more runs to grab a 9-3 advantage.  FDU closed to 9-5 after the top of the fifth inning on a RBI double by junior catcher Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) and a RBI single by freshman first baseman Elizabeth Spiller (Babylon, NY/St. John Baptist).  Westfield put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning when they tacked on three insurance runs to make it 12-5

Golembiewski finished 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two RBI but suffered the loss on the mound, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits in three innings.  Boyle went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI while Spiller and McInaw had two hits apiece.  Freshman pitcher Karla Babb (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John) tossed the final three innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, against Western New England beginning at 11:30 am and Franciscan beginning at 1:30 pm.
