CLERMONT, FL - The College at Florham Devils were knocked off by Wartburg, 10-8 (8), and Babson, 7-5, on the first day of their Florida Spring Break Trip on Saturday afternoon.
With the losses, FDU dropped to 0-2.
WARTBURG - The Devils were up 4-1 after five innings but Wartburg rallied to tie the score at 7-7 heading into extra innings. They then scored three runs in the top of the eighth and FDU could only push across one run in their half of the inning. Sophomore pitcher
Megan McInaw (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) suffered the loss, tossing 7.2 innings while allowing 10 runs (only four earned) on eight hits and striking out five. Junior catcher
Brianne Faynor (Cliffwood, NJ/Brookdale CC) finished 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a triple and two RBI while junior outfielder
Megan Boyle (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) collected two hits, including a double, and a RBI.
BABSON - FDU held a 5-4 advantage after four innings of play but Babson plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth and held the Devils scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the win. Sophomore pitcher
Megan Golembiewski (Beacon, NY/Beacon) took the loss, going six innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. At the plate, she went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and a RBI. McInaw was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Boyle had another double and a RBI.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, March 14, 2010, against SUNY Plattsburgh beginning at 3:30 pm and against Westfield State beginning at 5:30 pm.
