Staten Island, NY (October 19) – The FDU-Florham women's swimming team (2-0) competed in their first meet of the 2024-25 season at the Staten Island Tri-Meet and completed a clean sweep agaisnt the host by a 138.50-76.50 victory, and a dominate 153-49 win over Mount Saint Mary, along with seeing multiple MAC qualifying times and an ECAC qualification time.
FDU also saw individual wins from
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, N.J.), Jessica Mooney (Cranford, N.J.), Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Magda Konopka (Paramus, NJ). Fazzio found her win in the 100 fly (1:02.60), Mooney in the 500 free (5:54.24), Plank in the 100 Back (1:01.60) and Konopka placed first in both the 50 Free (24.81) and 100 Free (56.61). Fazzio also placed first in individual events with in the 200 IM with a time 2:22.13. Mooney touched third in both the 1000 free with a time of 12:48.12.
Also claiming a first-place finish was
Olivia Glenfield (Howell, NJ) who took home the top in the 1000 free (11:46.51). She also was seen competing in the 100 breast and placed second with a time of 1:13.96.
Junior
Jessica Mooney (Cranford, NJ) was the second Devils to compete in the 1000 free (12:48.12) and was able to claim a third place finish. She also placed third in the 500 free (6:14.86). Also competing in the 500 free was
Brynn Kelly (Pequannock, NJ) she placed fifth with a time of 6:42.48. Kelly also took home seventh in the 100 fly for a 1:22.93 time.
Competing in the 50 free was
Lauren Stone (Middletown, NJ), Caitlyn Karmaritsch (Roxbury, NJ) and
Gosia Swat (North Cadwell, NJ) as stone finished ahead in fourth (26.99), Karmaritsch took sixth (27.95), and Swat placed eighth (31.21). Stone was also seen competing in the 100 breast and clocked a time of 1:17.82 for third, while Karmaritsch placed fifth in the 100 free 1:03.54.
Sophomore
Ashley Smith (Tinton Falls, NJ) participated in the 200 free along with
Shalma Lopez (Union City, NJ). The pair placed second and fourth as Smith recorded a time of 2:10.64, while Lopez set a time of 2:23.91. Smith was also seen in the 100 free (59.54) for fourth place and Lopez took sixth in the 100 back (1:29.55).
Also competing in the 100 Fly was
Olivia Case (Cream Ridge, NJ) as she touched the wall for a time of 1:07.49 for third place and not far behind was sophomore
Riley Signor (Media, PA) in fourth with a time of 1:09.43. Case also produced a second place finish in the 100 back (1:05.36) while Signor took home another fourth place finish in the 100 breast (1:18.10).
Competing in the 200 IM were Seniors
Naia McGinn (Pleasant Borough, NJ) and
Isabel Thierman (Belmar, NJ) with Thierman touching the wall for a time of 2:56.91 for fourth and McGinn followed with a time of 3:21.10 for fifth. Each had a showing in another event as McGinn took fourth in the 100 back (1:15.55) and Thierman took sixth in the 100 breast (1:26.86).
The Devils also had a great showing in both relay events during the meet. The quartet of Plank, Stone, Smith, and Kramaritsch outswam both schools in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:59.65. The Second relay team took third for a time of 4:32.33 and consisted of Mooney, Signor, Lopez, and Swat. The Devils also fielded two 200 medley relay teams who where the makeup of Case, Konopka, Fazzio and Glenfield who outswam the competition with a time of 1:55.69 while the team of McGinn, Thierman, Kelly and Swat placed fourth with a team time of 2:20.74.
FDU-Florham will face Middle Atlantic Conference member King's (PA) for their next dual meet on Saturday, November 2.
