Madison, N.J (January 12) – The FDU-Florham women's swimming team (5-1) saw multiple first-place finishes on the day but was edged by fellow MAC school Arcadia (3-3), 102-96 in their first dual meet defeat of the season on Friday afternoon.
The Devils were led by
Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, N.J.) who collected a pair of victories in her individual events. She finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.68 which was nearly a whole 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and would be currently the third best overall time in the MAC. She also individually won the 200 breast when she clocked a time of 2:32.89.
Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, N.J.) and
Magda Konopka (Paramus, N.J.) each found themselves a first-place finish during today's meet. Plank touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 25.35 while Konopka touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.66. Both student-athletes also recorded a second-place finish with Plank finishing second in the 200 back (2:23.35) and Konopka in the 100 free (56.37).
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, N.J.) also picked up a win today as she finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:24.77. She won the race by more than 13 seconds. She also placed third today in the 200 free when she clocked a time of 2:08.50.
Jessica Mooney (Cranford, N.J.) saw a pair of second place finishes on the day in the 500 free (5:50.35) and the 1000 free (12:04.85), which was a personal-best by around nine seconds in the event.
Riley Signor (Melody, Pa.) saw the same amount of third place finishes when she touched the wall third in the 200 IM (2:39.04) and the 200 breast (2:54.00).
Fairleigh Dickinson also fielded relay teams for the 200 medley and free relays in today's meet. The 200 free relay team of Konopka, Plank, Fazzio and
Lauren Stone (Middletown, N.J.) placed first with a combined time of 1:43.24 while the unit of Mooney,
Isabel Thierman (Belmar, N.J.), Naia McGinn (Point Pleasant Borough, N.J.) and
Abigail Franco (New Providence, N.J.) finished with fourth with a time of 2:03.66. The 200-medley relay saw the quartet of Dougherty, Signor,
Brynn Kelly (Pequannock, N.J.) and
Ashley Smith (Tinton Falls, N.J.) place second with a team time of 2:01.74.
FDU-Florham sees a quick turnaround as they compete against D1 Saint Peters tomorrow, Saturday, January 12 with the first event starting at 1:00pm.
