PREVIEW: #5 Men’s Lacrosse Faces off With #4 Misericordia in the MAC 4/5 Play in Game

Madison, NJ (April 30)- After securing their spot with an 18-12 win against Lycoming, the fifth seeded FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team travels to face off with the fourth-seeded Misericordia squad on Monday May 1 with a 7:00 pm start.
 
The last time these two teams squared off in the MAC Freedom playoffs was in 2017 where the Cougars came out on top against the Devils with a score of 13-10. These two teams also faced off this season on Manglesdorf Field in Dallas, Pa with Misericordia taking a 20-4 win over FDU.
 
For the Devils squad, they enter the playoffs with a 7-10 overall record and a 3-5 MAC Freedom record. They are led Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) who are the top scorers on the team with Berghahn totaling 48 points on 35 goals and 13 assists and Fabin totaling 47 points on 37 goals and 10 assists. The defensive unit is held down by defensemen Zachary Van Zile (Kinnelon, NJ) and Aidan Bonn (Huntington, NY) as well as goalkeeper Dalton Povilaitis (Jefferson, NJ). Van Zile leads the team in caused turnovers and ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom with 34 on the year and has picked up 55 ground balls followed by Bonn who has created 26 turnovers that is tied for seventh in the MAC Freedom and picked up 52 ground balls. Povilaitis has totaled 203 saves on the season that ranks fourth best in the MAC Freedom.
 
For the Cougars, they reach the MAC Freedom playoff for the eighth straight season (not counting the cancelled season due to COVID-19) and this year come into the playoffs with a 9-8 overall record and a 5-3 MAC Freedom record. They ranked second overall this season in goals as a team and are led by their three-headed scoring monster of Robert Wagner, Kyle Vandenberg and Ryan Vandenberg. Wagner leads the MAC Freedom in assists with 46 and is tied for the second highest point total in the conference with 71 on the year. K. Vandenberg ranks in the MAC Freedom in goals with 51 on the year followed directly by R. Vandenberg who ranks fourth with 49 on the season. Defensively the Cougars are led by Trey Sasse who has caused 15 turnovers on the year. In goal, Sean Wallace has been the guy for Misericordia, starting all 17 of their games and collecting a total of 175 saves on the season.
