York, PA (February 9) – Senior Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) not only broke the school's 200 IM record that she set earlier this season (2:13.45), but she also earned a silver medal with a second overall finish in the field during the day one of the MAC Championship on February 9.

The FDU-Florham women's swimming team currently sits in sixth place out of 13 teams after the day one outing.

Dougherty finished fifth overall during her 200 IM preliminary swim, clocking in a time of 2:14.32, earning a spot in the championship finals. She then proceeded to break the 200 IM record with a time of 2:12.15 to earn her third career MAC Championship medal. She adds another silver medal to her collection to go along with the silver medal she earned in the 2021 400 IM and the bronze medal she received in 2022 in the 200 IM.  

First year Magda Konopka (Paramus, NJ) and junior Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, NJ) each earned a spot in the 200 IM consolation final with Konopka in 11th overall with a preliminary time of 2:19.67 and Fazzio in 12th overall with a time of 2:19.83 that shaved 0.6 seconds off her seed time. Both of them earned the same overall placements with Konopka in third overall in the consolation final with a time of 2:17.92 which was 1.75 seconds faster than her preliminary time and Fazzio in fourth in the consolation final with a time of 2:18.59.

Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, NJ) earned a spot for herself in the 50 free consolation final and touched the wall 11th overall with a time of 25:27 in her preliminary heat. Tonight in the B final, she clocked a 25:25 which was .02 seconds faster to place third in the consolation final and 11th overall.

Senior Emma Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) notched a spot in the C final in the 500 free with a time of 5:36.06 which shaved 4.51 seconds off her seed time and finished 18th overall in the preliminary swim. She finished third overall in the C final with a 5:32.56 finish which would be just over eight seconds faster than her seed time.

The women's squad saw two teams compete in the 200 medley relay. The team of Emma Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ), Konopka, Fazzio and Liz Briles (Glassboro, NJ) competed in the A finals and clocked a 1:55.55 which placed them ninth overall. The team of Jessica Mooney (Cranford, NJ), Paige Strangeway (Green Twp., NJ), Brynn Kelly (Pequannock, NJ) and Emily Maciejewski (Wall, NJ) finished with a time of 2:05.62 that finished 21st overall in the field.

Tomorrow at 9:30 am, FDU will compete in the prelims of the 400-IM, 100-fly and 200-free. Those who qualify will compete in the finals of those event tomorrow evening at 5:30 pm in addition to the timed finals of the 200-free relay and the 400-medley relay.
