Owings Mills, Md. (November 19) – For the second time this season, FDU-Florham women's swimming first-year
Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, NJ) broke the school record in the 50-free as she guided the Devils to a sweep of Stevenson University and Gallaudet University in a tri-meet this afternoon in Maryland.
FDU-Florham defeated the host Mustangs, 129-74, and Gallaudet University by a 157-24 final. In addition to Plank's record breaking performance, the Devils posted 15 qualifying times for the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship in today's meet. As a team, FDU-Florham won ten of 11 contested events on the day.
Plank began her day with the 400-medley relay team comprised of
Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ),
Magda Konopka (Paramus, NJ) and
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, NJ) as they clocked a time of 4:17.56 for first place. Plank went on to break her own school record in the 50-free for first place in 25.43 and placed first in the 100-free in 56.21.
Dougherty individually won the 200-breast in 2:35.54 and the 400-IM in 4:54.55, which is the third fastest 400-IM time in the conference this season, while Fazzio won the 200-free in 2:08.52 and the 200-fly in 2:24.67. Konopka closed her meet with a first place finish in the 200-IM in 2:21.62 and a third place finish in the 400-IM.
Emma Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) was also victorious in a pair of individual events as she touched the wall first in the 500-Free in 5:54.84 and the 200-back. E. Dougherty teamed up with
Alyssa Dowd (Budd Lake, NJ),
Emily Maciejewski (Wall, NJ) and
Lauren Stone (Middletown, NJ) for first place in the 400-free relay with a time of 4:04.84.
Dowd individually finished third in the 200-free in 2:14.03 and third in the 200-fly in 2:46.73, Maciejewski finished sixth in the 50-free in 27.30 and fourth in the 100-free in 1:02.67 and Stone finished third in the 50-free in 26.55 and second in the 100-free in 59.43.
FDU-Florham's "B" 400-free relay team of
Jessica Mooney (Cranford, NJ),
Liz Briles (Glassboro, NJ),
Paige Strangeway (Green Township, NJ) and
Isabel Thierman (Belmar, NJ) came in third place with a time of 4:34.10 to round of the highlights of today's meet.
FDU-Florham will have a couple of weeks off before heading down Madison Avenue for the Drew University Invitational. Day one of the meet is scheduled for Friday, December 2.
