Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (October 22) – In her first collegiate meet, FDU-Florham women's swimming first-year
Katelyn Plank (Bridgewater, NJ) broke the program record in the 50-free as the Devils posted a second place finish as a team at today's season-opening tri-meet with Wilkes University and Messiah University.
In the team standings, Messiah University won the meet with 133 points, FDU-Florham finished second with 71 points and Wilkes University earned just one point.
In addition to Plank's record setting swim, the Devils recorded 12 qualifying times for the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship.
Plank registered a first place finish and a school record in her very first swim at the collegiate level as she clocked a time of 25.59 in the 50-free, beating the Devils record by 0.01-seconds. The old record was held by teammate
Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ), who clocked a 25.60 last season.
Plank ended her day individually finishing third in the 100-free in a MAC qualifying time of 56.79 and alongside classmate
Magda Konopka (Paramus, NJ), first-year
Lauren Stone (Middletown, NJ) and sophomore
Julianna Fazzio (Glassboro, NJ) for a first place finish in the 200-free relay in a time of 1:44.69.
Konopka individually finished in first place with a MAC qualifying time of 2:03.23 in the 200-free and in second place with a championship qualifying time of 5:48.81 in the 500-free.
Senior
Sarah Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) also registered an individual victory and a conference championship qualifying time in the 200-IM with a mark of 2:19.00. Dougherty also posted a runner-up finish in the 100-back with a qualifying time of 1:04.53 as well as a fourth place finish in the 100-breast with a MAC qualifying time of 1:13.18.
In her first collegiate meet, Stone tallied a pair of MAC qualifying times as she touched the wall third in the 50-free (27.13) and fifth in the 100-free (59.63), while in her second year on the year Fazzio registered a pair of conference championship qualifying marks in the 200-free (2:11.77 – fourth place) and the 100-fly (1:04.48 – second place).
Senior
Emma Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) rounded out the highlights for the Devils this afternoon as she registered a MAC qualifying time of 2:28.57 for fifth place in the 200-IM.
FDU-Florham will head back to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. in a couple of weeks for a tri-meet at King's College. Fellow MAC rival Lebanon Valley University will swim alongside the Devils and Monarchs in the meet.
