Student Athlete Advisory Committee Hosts SAAC Olympics

Group Raised Funds for the Special Olympics

MADISON, N.J. (November 26, 2018) - The FDU-Florham Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the SAAC Olympics to benefit Special Olympics recently.

"SAAC Olympics has been a great FDU tradition going back to when Roger Kindel was in charge of SAAC," explained SAAC advisor and men and women's swimming coach Rich Palm. "The student-athletes do a great job of coming together for a fun time and great cause! I hope in the future that we can become more involved with the local Special Olympics branch and grow SAAC Olympics even more."

The Devils student-athlete split into teams to raise funds for the Area 3 branch of the Special Olympics, which serves Morris, Warren and Sussex County.

The teams competed in knockout, corn hole, KanJam, and dodgeball, with each team donating $20 to compete. The winning team consisted of student-athletes representing men's basketball, baseball and softball. In total, the student-athletes raised $120 which was matched by the athletic department for a total of $240.

"It was an awesome experience getting to compete with my friends and fellow athletes in some fun activities, while getting to do it all for raising money for Special Olympics!!" exclaimed junior Michael Tufano. Tufano serves as the SAAC School Spirit Coordinator as well as an outfielder on the baseball team.
