MADISON, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham's Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) presented the 15
th annual Life After College Athletics panel last night at the Rutherford Room in the Ferguson Recreation Center.
This year's speakers included five former FDU-Florham student-athletes: Lorren Cargill (BA-06'
Men's Soccer), Jimmy DaSilva (BS-06'
Baseball), Patricia Manhart (BA/MAT 11'-
Women's Volleyball), Pierre Schmitt (BS-07'/MSA 10' –
Men's Basketball), and Corey VanOrden (BS-13' –
Field Hockey).
The panel of former Devils provided the current student-athletes insight into the workplace through different fields, which consisted of professional sports, finance, education and retail careers.
Former FDU-Florham basketball player and current top performing Flagship Branch Manager in North Jersey at Enterprise Rent-A-Car urged the audience that "you have to find work, work is not going to find you."
Work ethic and effort were two focal points of the night as discussed by DaSilva, who is a Manager of Ticketing for Major League Baseball. DaSilva spoke, "you can teach knowledge but you can't teach personality and good character."
In addition, Greg Winsper
CLU, the President of Empire Wealth Strategies, closed the evening with several key words for the students and advised them to use social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, as tools for career advancement.
