Box Score ST.DAVIDS, Pa. – The FDU-Florham Devils men's lacrosse team dropped a Freedom Conference matchup 20-3 to Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Devils drop to 6-5 overall and 1-1 in Freedom Conference play, while the Eagles improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Seconds into the match, senior
Andy Jameson opened the scoring for Eastern. The Eagles kept their foot on the gas with four-consecutive goals to open up a 5-0 lead. The Devils finally broke through when senior
Lance O'Donovan (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) scored an unassisted goal with 59 seconds to play in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, the Eagles put the game out of reach with seven-unanswered goals to stake a 12-1 advantage. Five different Eagles scored in the period with junior attack
Dave Darling totaling two strikes. The third quarter was more of the same, as the Eagles scored the only five goals of the period, which further enhanced their lead.
After Eastern notched the first two scores of the fourth quarter, the Devils finally broke the streak when junior
Ryan Berkenbush (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) picked up his first goal of the season off of an assist from O'Donovan.
O'Donovan totaled two goals to lead the Devils, while freshman
Matt Melnik (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) added his 11
th assist of the campaign in the loss.
Eighteen different Eagles earned a point in the victory, led by freshman
Bryan Goetz's hat trick. The Eagles outshot the Devils 63-14 and won 23 of the 27 face-offs in the game.
