Victory Sends Devils to Freedom Conference Tournament

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team concluded their regular season with a playoff-clinching 8-4 victory over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.

With the win, the Devils (8-7, 3-3 Freedom) advanced to take on top-seeded Eastern University (12-4, 6-0 Freedom) on Tuesday. The Eagles defeated the Devils 20-3 earlier this season in St. Davids, Pa.

Despite outshooting the Knights 15-2 in the opening period, the Devils only led 1-0 through one period of action with junior attack Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) picking up the goal off of an assist from Connor May (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia).

However, FDU-Florham increased their lead with four-straight goals in the second quarter. Celebrating senior day, Lance O'Donovan (Duxbury, Mass/Duxbury) began the surge with an unassisted strike. Four minutes later, freshman Mike Duesler (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) scored his fourth goal of the season to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

Freshmen Dan Decker (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and May netted goals just 13 seconds apart, which resulted in a 5-0 advantage for the Devils. FDU-Florham held a 5-1 lead at intermission.

After Arcadia sophomore Chris Jacovino opened the third quarter with a goal, the Devils responded with three-straight goals. Reda scored the first, O'Donovan followed, and Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) notched the third, which put the game out of reach.

Reda, the conference's leading scorer, added five ground balls to his ledger, while Decker caused a season-high five turnovers in the win. FDU-Florham junior goalkeeper Gerry Yotcoski (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was stellar in net and made 12 saves in the victory.

Next up for the Devils:
The Devils head to St. Davids, Pa. this Tuesday, April 29th to take on Eastern University in the opening round of the Freedom Conference Tournament. Start time to be announced on Sunday.
