Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team earned a 12-4 victory over Manhattanville College at Robert T. Shields Field on Tuesday night.
Junior attack
Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) totaled three goals, six ground balls, and caused three turnovers to lead FDU-Florham in the win.
With the victory, the Devils are now 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in Freedom Conference play. FDU-Florham will need a win over Arcadia on Saturday afternoon to earn a spot in the Freedom Conference Tournament. The Valiants dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-5 in conference play with the loss.
The Devils led 3-1 after one period of action, thanks two to goals by Reda and one by freshman
Connor May (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia). All three goals were assisted by sophomore
Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland). Minnich leads the Devils with 18 helpers on the season.
Minnich connected with May for another goal early in the second quarter, which built the FDU-Florham lead to 4-1. The Devils scored three of the next four tallies in the period and entered halftime with a 7-3 advantage.
FDU-Florham did an excellent job of retaining possession and limiting the Valiants offensive chances. In the third period, the Devils increased their cushion by blanking Manhattanville 2-0. Junior
Ryan Berkenbush (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) picked up his second goal of the season in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Devils sealed the win thanks to goals by
Dan Decker (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) and
Lance O'Donovan (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), which gave the home team an 11-4 edge. After handing out four assists in the game, Minnich picked up a goal of his own, which resulted in the final score of the contest.
Matt Melnik (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and O'Donovan finished with two goals, while May totaled two scores and five ground ball in the win. Junior goalkeeper
Gerry Yotcoski (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) made 11 saves and allowed four goals to earn his fourth win of the year.
