Devils Offense Thrives in 16-9 Victory

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils men's lacrosse team was unfazed by the rainy conditions and earned a 16-9 victory over Dominican College on Saturday afternoon at Robert T. Shields Field.

Devils ( 5-4, 4-3 Freedom) junior attack Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) continued his outstanding season with seven goals, while also adding eight ground balls, three caused turnovers and one assist in the victory. The junior now leads the Freedom Conference with 39 goals on the season.

With 6:32 to play in the first quarter, Reda opened the scoring by firing home an assist from Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland). Six seconds later, Reda assisted on Connor May's (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) first goal of the afternoon, which gave the Devils a 2-0 lead. After two more goals by Reda, FDU-Florham led 4-0 through one quarter of action.

May netted the first strike of the second period before the Chargers (1-7) broke into the scoring column on a goal by freshman Tanner Olsen. The Devils countered with two goals in two minutes by May and freshman Matt Melnik (Clifton, N.J./Clifton). Freshman Dan Decker (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) notched the highlight-goal of the contest with a leaping backhanded shot from behind the net that brought the rain-soaked crowd to their feet. Decker's goal sent the Devils into halftime with an 8-2 lead.

However, the Chargers came out firing in the third period and scored three-straight goals to cut the FDU-Florham lead to 8-5. Melnik stopped the run by scoring a gorgeous goal off of a behind-the-net pass from Minnich. The Devils proceeded to score the game's next four goals, which put the game out of reach.

May finished with five goals, while freshman Dalton Rimmer (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) won 15 face-offs and snagged 12 ground balls in the victory. The Devils fired a season-high 57 shots, 36 of which were on net.  FDU-Florham junior net-minder Gerry Yotcoski (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) made 13 saves to improve his record to 2-0 on the campaign.
