Box Score WASHINGTON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham Devils fought off the cold temperatures to claim a 12-8 victory over Centenary College on Wednesday night at Warren Hills High School.
Frank Reda (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) and
Lance O'Donovan (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) each tallied hat tricks in the victory as the Devils improved to 4-4 on the season. The loss drops the Cyclones to 2-4 overall on the campaign.
Making his first start of the season, junior goalkeeper
Gerry Yotcoski (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) was strong in net and made five saves to earn the victory.
After falling behind 2-0, the Devils retaliated with four-straight goals to close the first period. Talented freshmen
Dalton Rimmer (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and
Dan Decker (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) each struck to even the score at 2-2. Two minutes later, another freshman
Mike Duesler (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) put the Devils ahead with his second goal of the season.
The two teams matched one another goal-for-goal in the second period and FDU-Florham led 8-6 at intermission. In the second half, the Devils defense locked in and held the Cyclones to just two goals. O'Donovan's goal with 49 ticks to play in the third period gave FDU-Florham a 10-7 lead and the Cyclones were unable to get any closer.
Sophomore attack
Daniel Minnich (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) scored two goals and handed out three assists, while Rimmer won 12 face-offs and snagged nine ground balls in the victory. Centenary sophomore
Anthony Biango led the Cyclones with three goals in the loss.
As a team, the Devils fired off 22 more shots than the Cyclones (48-26) and forced the home team into 21 turnovers. FDU-Florham did an excellent job of clearing the ball out of their zone and finished a perfect nine for nine in clear attempts.
